“A gripping, unforgettable adventure- and a fresh look at what it means to love.” Lauren Kate, author of Fallen.

Have you ever had the feeling that everything you had learned was wrong? In this fresh new novel, Eve, the main character is faced with this exact feeling.

After Eve’s parents died in a major plague, she was found and quickly brought to a school for girls. Eve learns about the scary future that awaits her after she graduates. She runs away knowing that she needs to escape this terrible fate. Taught that men will only hurt and control you, Eve is hesitant when a boy comes to save her from a bear attack. Caleb is the rescuer and eventually he convinces not only Eve but also another runaway from school-Arden-to trust him. Eve and Arden are brought to an all-boys safe camp, which is where Caleb had been staying. Finally safe and protected by the men and boys, Eve thinks that everything will be fine-until the King’s army starts to search for her. Will she ever be safe?

Lilly…If you are someone who goes crazy for a violent but romantic kind of book, then this is this perfect book for you! One of the best things in this book is the cliffhangers at the end of the chapters. “And as fast as the door opened, it closed behind me, leaving me alone in the cold, starless night.” This makes you wonder what Eve will do next. What will she do to survive? Another thing that I really enjoyed about this book was that you could be hit with a hurricane of violence and then Anna Carey would focus on Eve and Caleb just being together, feeling the love that was quietly blooming. A lot of skill is required in order to be able to write with the details and gore of Cirque Du Freak but still bring in a little of a Romeo and Juliet type of romance. We give her tons of credit for this. Overall this is a trilogy that I would definitely continue to read. I am now in love with this trilogy! So read it!

Jordyn…One thing that I really like is the cliffhangers. For example in the book it left you hanging by saying, “I had to get away from that building, that room, those girls with the dead eyes. I had to get away.” Another thing that I like about this book is the description. “Arden stripped off her black hooded sweatshirt, exposing her pale arms. Her shoulders were dusted with freckles.” I think that it is really good description to help understand more of what Arden looks like. Overall, this book was good. It’s not really my favorite genre or the type of book I usually read, but I will definitely be reading the second book, Once, as soon as I get my hands on it!

So what do you say? Do you want to get your mind tangled up in an amazing book that has not only romance, but suspense and action wrapped up perfectly?   Well, if you answer yes, then pick up Eve as soon as you can!

And now for our interview with author Anna Carey…

1 – Where did you grow up?

Huntington, NY

2 – When did you start writing?

I kept a journal on and off since middle school, but it wasn’t until senior year that I took my first creative writing class.

3 – Have you always wanted to be an author?

I have, although when I was younger I didn’t know exactly what “being an author” entailed. I always imagined authors were these strange hermits who were always broke and ate spaghetti-os out of the can. How could anyone write a book and get it published? How could anyone be that lucky? Didn’t you have to be crazy to even attempt such a thing?

4 – What were your favorite YA authors/books growing up – and how about now?

I loved Tuck Everlasting. I recently re-read it, and it was as meaningful to me now as it was then. I love that Winnie is let in on this secret, that this family is so happy to have someone new to speak to, even if it means eventually losing her. I was also a huge fan of the Babysitter’s Club–I had over a hundred and fifty of those books and I read them all. They helped me see myself as a reader, and in turn, helped me become a writer. They were my gateway books to the reading and writing life.

5 – Were Eve and Caleb based off of any real people in your life?

They weren’t, although I do see parts of myself in Eve.

6 – This story is very creative – what inspired you or where did you come up with the idea?

Eve started with a question: what happens when you find out everything you’ve learned is a lie? How do you move on from that?

7 – Do you believe in a love like Eve and Caleb’s?

Of course. I think the reason it was so natural to write was because it feels so real to me. Their lives are mostly about survival–how to get by in this new world, how to be together when everything seems to be pushing them apart. A lot of their love story, as the series progresses, is about how they risk and sacrifice for one another, trying to keep each other alive. I think that’s one of the most incredible things about love–it makes you care for someone else more than yourself. It defies all reason or logic.

8 – What projects/books are you working on now?

I JUST finished the last book in the trilogy! And now I’m working on a top secret new series, to be announced at some later date.

Thanks Anna!  We can’t wait to read the sequel, Once, due out on July 3rd!  To find out more about Anna and her novels, visit her website at http://annacareybooks.com/
