It’s the First Day of School…Forever by RL Stine

Do you think it is possible for the day to repeat over and over again? If it happened to you, how you would feel? To add to even more stress, the bad things that happened to you the day before happen to you the next day, but become even worse. The book, It’s the First Day of School… Forever by R.L. Stine, follows the life of Artie Howard in the days that repeat.
It is Artie Howard’s first day of school and he starts it all off by falling out of bed! He does not know any kids and, to make his situation even worse, he has the most annoying little brother ever. He says anything he wants, he does everything he wants, and eats everything in front of him. When he gets to his new school, he has a bad start. His brother, of course, jumps in all of the puddles on the way to the school so it makes Artie look like he peed his pants. He is not going to make friends that way, especially in high school. Then, right when he steps into school, he realizes that his dog has followed him to school and bit the principal’s hand! Surprisingly nothing happens during the next two classes. Then in science he goes to get his seat and he figures out that he had accidentally taken another kid’s backpack. And it was the kid who already thought he was a fool. Later in the class he got stung by a bee and a scorpion, causing him to fall out of the window and land into a bunch of bushes. After that class he went to lunch and he realizes the whole football team is chasing after him! Can his day get any worse? Well, he makes up the next morning and realizes he’s doing the same day all over again! He is confused out of his mind! Especially when things get weirder and weirder – Artie actually begins to look forward to the end of the day so he can restart it all over again! What will happen next? Will Artie repeat his first day of school…forever?
The suspense in this story is so gut-wrenching! I liked when he is getting chased by the football players. You do not know what is going to happen. Is he going to get his face beaten in or is he going to escape and get to his next class safely? Although there is so much suspense the repetitive details of his day initially got a little boring – I thought I knew what was going to happen next. Even though the story is about the day repeating, the story does keep you guessing all of the time and new little twists and turns get added. The action never stops, like when the day repeats Artie almost get ran over by a gasoline truck right before school. There are many interesting twists that keep you wanting to read. So if you like action and suspense, and you’re a fan of R.L. Stine, this is the book for you!
