SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ SHATTER ME!
“Everything has changed. Because once upon a time I was just a child. Today I’m still just a child, but this time I’ve got an iron will and 2 fists made of steel and I’ve aged 50 years. Now I finally have a clue. I’ve finally figured out that I’m strong enough, that maybe I’m a touch brave enough, that maybe this time I can do what I was meant to do. This time I am a force. A deviation of human nature. I am living, breathing proof that nature is officially screwed, afraid of what it’s done, what it’s become. And I’m stronger. I’m angrier. I’m ready to do something I’ll definitely regret and this time I don’t care. I’m done being nice. I’m done being nervous. I’m not afraid of anything. Mass chaos is my future. And I’m leaving my gloves behind.”
In Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi, Juliette has made it to Omega Point – the headquarters for the rebel resistance. She is free – or is she? Will she ever be free from Warner? And now Juliette is forced to face the truth behind Adam’s ability to touch her. After she discovers that Warner is also able to touch her, she becomes suspicious. When Castle starts conducting tests on Adam to discover why he is immune to Juliette’s touch, Adam starts acting odd. Juliette knows there is something Adam won’t tell her, something big. She has always found it odd that when Adam touches her his body heat is too hot to be normal. Now he isn’t acting like himself, he gets confused easily and is always gone with Castle. Has Castle discovered something that is making Adam act this way? Why won’t Adam or Castle or even Kenji, who is helping her train, tell her what Castle has found that is such a big secret? Could this change the relationship between Juliette and Adam? How come Warner is also able to touch her? Are both of their immunities connected somehow? With war against other people who want Juliet right around the corner, can they afford to keep such secrets?
All these questions and many more are answered in Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi. I loved Unravel Me. It was amazing. It had just the right amount of suspense and now I can’t wait for the next book. There are many secrets unveiled that I could never have predicted, and some of them are shocking! I was sad at the end when I was left at a large cliff hanger, but that is to be expected with books in a series. But, I still loved the book. I really like Kenji, because even though he likes Juliette and can’t have her, he still is light-hearted and fun. He isn’t deterred by the fact that Juliette does not like him back, or that she is dating his roommate. I also liked Juliette, because she didn’t want to use her powers to hurt people. I think a lot of people would let that kind of power go to their head and do something they regret. I cannot wait until the next book comes out next year! You will not be disappointed by Unravel Me, the sequel to Shatter Me, both by Tahereh Mafi. Also check out Destroy Me, a novella, which gives you a glimpse into Warner’s mind!
